Take this road and drive towards the village Ngare Nanyuki, where you will see the Arusha Nationalpark on your left side. After the petrol station turn left to go towards Arusha Nationalpark, but do not enter it. RIVER WALKS
The river Meru, which borders Arusha National Park, can be walked along most of the way from its source to the Maasai land. Walk downstream from the crystal-clear spring water, a perfect place to take a plunge, through unspoiled landscape until the journey eventually leads you back into civilization. Random encounters with giraffes, dik-diks and various bird species round off the two-hour walk. Children playing, young shepherds who lead their herds and women washing their laundry in the river will also cross your path. After an idyllic picnic at the foot of Mount Meru, the river walk ends at the village of Ngarenanyuki. It’s representative for its lively African village feeling.
Follow the river from the heart of the national park to the bustling village. Nature and culture become one in a very special way.
Cost: USD 35 per person (minimum 2 persons)
NATURE WALKS
Experience the wideness of Africa first-handed at the Maasai and Meru plateau situated in between Mount Meru and Kilimanjaro at 1,500 meters. Our experienced guides lead you through extraordinary flora and fauna on trails only known by the locals. Both the swamp of Meru land and the Maasai savannah are unique and untouched. The vast savannah is home to innumerable medicinal herbs used by the Maasai. Various animals like tortoises, birds or snakes find breeding grounds in the Meru swamp. In many Meru legends, the swamp is considered home to pythons. As a matter of fact, it is not recommended to enter the area during the rainy season. A picnic on an island, covered with meter-high spurges, makes you lose track of time.
Cost: USD 35 per person (minimum 2 people)
MUKURU
Between Momella and Ngabobo, north of Mount Meru lies the village of Mukuru. A small, pyramid-shaped hill at the foothills of Mount Meru is the landmark of the area. This hill, Ol Doinyo Landaree, is still used by the Maasai for religious purposes. It is not a tourist destination; however, we are allowed to pay for a visit from time to time. Birdlife is abundant, giraffes feed on fine acacia leaves and zebras share the pasture with the locals’ cattle. A place of peace and contemplation.
Cost: USD 50 per person
FESTIVALS
Attending a typical Meru or Maasai wedding, an initiation rite or other ritual ceremonies can be the highlight of your Africa holidays. Our involvement in various projects that helped a great number of people has led to a close and friendly relationship between Africa Amini Alama and the locals. And of course, we also enjoy celebrating together. We cordially invite you to attend these festivals. We will provide you with traditional clothes so that you fit in with the colorful local community. Whether it’s the red shades of your Maasai Shuka or a very colorful Kanga. You will find yourself in another world at least for a couple of hours.
